Black History Month & March Madness
“Kids deserve to have special moments in school, and adding balloons is one way to bring that joy.”
February wrapped up with a few exciting events celebrating Black History Month and March Madness at local schools—including my own! I absolutely love setting up balloon displays in schools. Kids light up when they see the vibrant colors and fun designs, and it's such a simple yet meaningful way to bring a little extra joy to their day.
One thing I also enjoy about school events is seeing how well my balloon creations hold up in a high-energy environment. Let’s be honest—kids are curious and quick to touch—so it's always a fun challenge to design something both beautiful and durable!
The first event this month was the Black History Month Program at Dream Mott Haven Middle School. This was my first time working with them, and I was excited to showcase my work! For this setup, I designed a square balloon arch to fit neatly around a doorway. Choosing a square frame helped keep the balloons out of people’s faces and maintained a clean, structured look.
I prepped the setup the night before and stored the arch safely in a nearby nook until it was time to secure it in place the next day. Anchoring down every piece is a must—especially in a school environment where little hands are everywhere!
Small Business Tip:
If you're just getting started, a great way to build client loyalty is by offering a discount on their next order in exchange for an Instagram post and a review. Simple incentives like this can go a long way in encouraging repeat business and building your brand’s reputation.
It’s always a joy to be part of school celebrations, and I can’t wait to see what the next month brings!

We wrapped up the month with a fun and festive March Madness–themed backdrop at Creo College Prep! This surprise setup welcomed students at the start of their test prep season, adding a playful and uplifting touch during what can be a stressful time of year.
T, our point of contact for this event, was incredibly grateful for the opportunity to bring some well-earned joy to the students. It’s always rewarding to know that our balloon displays can help create a special atmosphere—especially for young people who truly deserve it.
For this installation, we attached the balloons directly to a glass window using clear hooks and rubber bands. It was a simple and effective method that kept everything secure and in place. We even reinforced a few extra spots—just in case any excited students couldn’t resist getting a closer look! When it comes to school setups, our top priority is always giving the client peace of mind.
Here’s a little behind-the-scenes secret: I’m actually a teacher at Creo College Prep! I teach 5th grade history, and this is my 11th year in the classroom. Being able to contribute to the school community in this creative way was truly special. I also had the unique chance to monitor how well the balloon setup held up over time—and I was pleasantly surprised to see it lasted for three months!
To help extend the display’s life, I gave the balloons a refresh with some balloon shine about halfway through. That little boost kept them looking bright and cheerful for even longer.
It’s always exciting when work and passion collide, and I feel lucky to bring a bit of celebration to the spaces I care about most.

Celebrating Student Success with Custom Balloon Columns
As a fun and motivating initiative, I created balloon columns to display outside classroom doors, celebrating our “Top Classrooms of the Week.” Students in grades 5–8 competed to earn this recognition by demonstrating strong work habits or achieving the highest grades in the school. The winning classrooms proudly displayed their columns like trophies—a simple but powerful way to boost morale and bring joy during potentially stressful academic periods. The excitement and bragging rights that came with these columns were a joy to witness!
How to Make a Balloon Column: Step-by-Step Guide
These eye-catching columns were easy to create by following a few simple steps:
Create Balloon Duplets
Inflate and tie two 9-inch balloons of the same color together to form a duplet.Form a Quad
Twist two duplets together to make a quad (four-balloon cluster) of the same color.Attach to the Stand
Twist each quad tightly around the balloon stand. This will secure the balloons in place.Repeat
Continue creating and attaching quads (Steps 1–3) until the stand is fully covered.Cover the Pole
Make 3-inch balloon duplets, twist them into quads, and use rubber bands to attach them to the column. These smaller balloons help cover any visible sections of the pole. Pay attention to your color pattern—you can stack same-color quads or alternate for contrast and visual interest.Top It Off
Add a 20-inch balloon to the top of the column for a bold finishing touch.
This easy-to-execute decoration added a big impact to our school culture—and it can do the same in many environments, whether you're recognizing student success, employee achievements, or just adding a festive touch to an event!
